As we begin this year I reflect on the last. It was a busy year with Covid rampaging through society. Several waves later here we are still fighting to get back to some form of normal. Our family was not unscathed from its clutches. Fortunately, we did not suffer any losses. I am patiently waiting for appointments to open up so I can get my booster. I want to do my part so we can get past this trying time in our history.
With isolation comes reflection and internal evaluation. I finally hit that place in my life where I decided it was time to address my diabetes and weight. I changed my diet and in doing so was able to eliminate insulin all together. How did I do this? I removed all processed sugar from my diet for three weeks. I followed the 21 Day Sugar Detox and I was really surprised by the results. I'll be honest, I purchased the book in 2020 and never opened it. I was afraid that I would not be able to follow this lifestyle change. I mean let's be realistic, it is not a diet but a lifestyle change that will help me manage my glucose levels and weight. I believe the long term implication frightened me. I mourned the loss of chips and cake. Once the three week period was over I lost 15 pounds and felt so much better. It was not easy. I was so hungry that first week and became a little moody. Week two gave me hope. The hunger abated and I was starting to see the weight loss. My portion sizes are now normal and we removed all junk food from our pantry. I started this new food chapter on Sept 20th and had a bit of a lapse over the holidays. Today I am jumping back into it and removed all the holiday treats and snacks. I've lost a total of 24 lbs. so far but hopefully with the addition of a daily walk I can get to my goal by the end of 2022. It's a marathon and weight loss is slow but I will get there one pound at a time.
Our demo sessions stopped with the pandemic and right now there is too much uncertainty to start these up again. CanGames is in the planning stages for May 2022 but of course this will depend on the progress of the pandemic. I hope we can offer in person sessions at that time but in the meantime we are planning an online backup plan. More information will follow as this develops.
I wish everyone a happy New Year and hope we can soon get back to normal. Keep in touch with friends and family and check in on each other. We'll get through this together!
